DESCRIPTION:

HI-FLEX is a high build membrane coating formulated from premium grade Australian made acrylic emulsions and exhibits superior qualities of durability, cohesive strength, flexibility and water and weather resistance. Unlike other hard decorative surface finishes or interior coatings based on cheaper grades of emulsions, either heavily filled or low in volume solids, HI-FLEX provides long life flexible protection with long lasting UV resistance.

PURPOSE:

To provide an attractive, decorative and functional waterproof membrane finish to protect structures against the environmental elements of rain and sun. This seamless, flexible waterproof membrane is ideally suited for use over roofing and decking or on walls subject to cracking and water penetration from wind driven rain.

APPLICATION:

Application is be roller, brush or heavy duty spray units. For re-enforced membrane systems, the bedding coat is best applied by broom to ensure positive penetration of the re-enforcing fabric (Reo-Fab). Although HI-FLEX has good adhesion to most substrates, the application of HI-FLEX PRIMER provides superior adhesion to porous surfaces.

FINISH AND COLOUR:

HI-FLEX has a heavy thixotropic consistency with excellent gap filling properties. The dried coating has a low sheen finish and is available in a virtually unlimited range of colours.

GRADES:

HI-FLEX T.G (Texture Grade) formulated to provide a texture finished membrane for wall and ceiling applications. A variety of finishes can be achieved by varying applicator equipment and techniques. Application by spray will produce a smooth to rippled texture. Fabric roller sleeves will produce medium to high drag patterns and foam texture rollers, a variety of light to bold texture patterns dependent upon the grade of roller.

HI-FLEX (Deck Grade) specifically formulated for use in combination with REO FAB, re-enforcing fabric, as a multi-layer seamless decking membrane system or other applications where a high degree of movements is anticipated. Do not apply HI-FLEX if rain is imminent. The coating system must be protected against direct contact with water or other liquids for a minimum of 24 hours after application. Application should not be carried out at temperature below 10oc or above 36oc particularly in dry windy conditions.

PACKAGING:

Supplied in 4 litre, 10 litre and 20 litre pails

CLEAN UP:

Wash brushes, rollers and other equipment with water.

SPECIFICATIONS:

01. BUILDING TRADE HEADINGS - 'PAINTERS CLAUSE'/'WATERPROOFING CLAUSE' Decorative, flexible, high build membrane coating for application to walls, roof or deck areas as indicated on contract drawings and or finished schedule.

02. SYSTEM COMPOSITION The coating system shall be composed of an acrylic based patching compound, UNI-PATCH, followed by an acrylic resin based primer, HI-FLEX PRIMER, followed by the application of two coats of HI-FLEX membrane coating. For decking application or where bridging structural cracks, a layer of re-enforcing fabric, REO-FAB, must be embedded into the first of the two layers.

03. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
ADHESION - Very good to most substrates. Excellent to primed surfaces.
FLEXIBILITY - 475o elongation at break. A.S. 1145 - 1972
DURABILITY - Excellent resistance to water, accepts ponding when cured. Excellent resistance to UV (Ultra Violet). Excellent resistance to fungi. CHEMICAL RESISTANCE - Good
DIRT RETENTION - Low, easily cleaned.
DRYING TIMES - Average 2 hours to overcoat dependent on temperature, humidity and substrate.

04. MINIMUM COATING QUANTITIES
TEXTURE APPLICATIONS - Apply HI-FLEX PRIMER at no less than 0.10 l/m2 (10m2 per litre - 100 microns) followed by 2 coats of HI-FLEX T.G. at no less than:

SMOOTH TO LIGHT TEXTURE - 0.25 l/m2 per coat (250 microns).
LIGHT TO MEDIUM TEXTURE - 0.35 l/m2 per coat (350 microns).
HI-BUILD - 0.50 l/m2 per coat (500 microns).

DECKING APPLICATIONS:

Apply HI-FLEX PRIMER at no less than 0.17 l/m2 (6m2 per litre - 170 microns) followed by 1 coat of HI-FLEX DG at no less than 0.80 l/m2 and bed into this wet coat the REO-FAB, re-enforcing fabric. Ensure that the REO-FAB is totally (wetted out) by the membrane and no air is left in the system. Apply a final coat of HI-FLEX DG at no less than 0.50 l/m2 to ensure a total dry film build of no less than 1mm (1000 microns), not including re-enforcing fabric.

05. SURFACE PREPARATION All surfaces must be clean and dry, free from grease and oil, laitance, curing compounds, form release agents and any other contaminants which may impair adhesion of the primer coat. Concrete and cement to be fully cured. Repair holes and uneven surfaces with UNI-PATCH.
EXPANSION JOINTS - Expansion joints shall be treated in the conventional manner, refer manufacturer for directions. HI-FLEX membrane may be applied directly over sealed expansion joints. For applications where the membrane is to be applied over expansion joints where excessive movement is anticipated apply an additional bandage strip, of HI-FLEX membrane and REO-FAB, re-enforcing over the joint area prior to application of HI-FLEX system. Refer manufacturer for further details.
Horizontal surfaces shall have sufficient falls to ensure no ponding occurs. It shall be responsibility of the Applicator, the Builder and the Specifier to ensure that the surface to be coated is acceptable and in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements prior to application. Curing compounds if required must be compatible with the membrane system, i.e. CURE-CRETE A. or equal.

06. PROTECTION AND POST CARE HI-FLEX membranes shall not be applied if rain is imminent and shall be protected from liquids for a minimum of 24 hours after application. Application should not be applied in temperatures lower than 10oc or above 36oc particularly in dry and windy conditions.

07. PERFORMANCE WARRANTIES The applicator shall at the completion of work issue a five year warranty against faulty workmanship and the manufacturer a five year warranty against material deterioration or defect. Such warranties to be contingent upon the Applicator have examined and approved the substrate and the Builder having maintained the required standard of the substrate as originally examined and approved by the Applicator and in accordance with clause 05.
