PURPOSE:
To ensure the adhesion of cushion based
compounds such as Flexi-base and Cushion Base to concrete substrates.
To seal and provide a waterproofing barrier on concrete standards.
DESCRIPTION:
Hydro-Prime is a two component, emulsion
based Acrylic/Epoxy blend primer, supplied as Part A and Part B.
The combination of these two components chemically cross-link to form a
flexible, tough film that primes and seals concrete.
The cured film provides an excellent waterproofing barrier capable of
withstanding the transmission of water from below and within the concrete
base.
Principally Hydro-Prime is used to promote adhesion between the concrete
and cushion based emulsion blends such as Flexi-Base and Cushion Base.
SURFACE PREPARATION:
For full details on this subject refer to
subject matter Surface Preparation.
New or old concrete surfaces must be
prepared either by a combination of dilute acid and high pressure water
blasting or extreme situations by mechanical methods such as shot or sand
blasting. Acid etching being the most commonly used method. Note: When
using acid to etch the surface, a solution of muriatic or phosphoric acid
with potable water to achieve a concentration of 10 to 15% acid is
required. If the concentration of acid is 35%, dilute 1 part acid to 3
parts water. Always add acid to water. A 16 litre mix requires 4 litres
acid to 12 litres water.
APPLICATION:
MIX: Empty the entire contents of
Part B (4 Ltrs) into Part A (16 Ltrs) component pail. Blend the components
using a low speed mixer at a speed between 400-600 r.p.m. for a minimum
period of 2 minutes. Do not incorporate air when mixing. decant the 20
Litre mix into two clean 20 Ltr buckets, half fill each bucket to 10 Ltrs
and fill with equal part of clean water (potable). Blend the mix using a
slow speed mixer at a speed between 400-600 r.p.m. for a minimum of 2
minutes.
APPLICATION: After mixing, pour
immediately onto the clean, dry substrate and spread evenly with a wide
framed, medium to long nap paint roller or apply by low pressure spray
unit. Avoid heavy concentrations. The intent is to obtain maximum
penetration. Heavy builds will only glaze the surface and may prevent
rather than promote the adhesion of the cushion layer. Application rates
will vary depending upon porosity of the substrate. An approximate
coverage rate is 13m2 per Litre.
DRYING TIME: The primer will be dry
enough to over coat after 1 hour, depending on porosity of the substrate
and temperatures. Apply Cushion Base as soon as the sealer is dry.
COVERAGE: At an approximate coverage
of 13m2 per Litre the 40 Litre mix will cover an area of 520m2.
LIMITATIONS: Do not apply when
temperatures are below 100C or above 350C or when rain is imminent. Do not
allow the applied sealer to remain exposed tot he elements for more than
24 hours. Apply Cushion Base or Flexi-Base as soon as the primer is dry
enough to walk on.
