Description:
RAINCOTE is a high performance colourless
penetrating water repellent specifically formulated for above grade
masonry surfaces. Applied to the exterior surface of a wall RAINCOTE
effectively prevents the entrance of moisture, even from high velocity
wind driven rain. RAINCOTE provides economical protection for buildings,
bridges, silos and other masonry structures as well as other porous
substrates such as fibrous cement roofing.
Composition:
RAINCOTE water repellents are based on a
composition of active waterproofing ingredients dispensed in a blend or
aromatic solvents. When applied in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations RAINCOTE will penetrate up to 13mm into the substrate,
depending on surface porosity. RAINCOTE does not contain silicones, oils
or varnishes.
Advantages:
RAINCOTE in essence becomes an invisible
raincoat and will not discolour the surface. Preserves original beauty and
prohibits discolouration. Penetrates deeply, extending the life of the
masonry. Permits masonry to "breathe" -disallows the entrance of
water as a liquid, yet permits moisture in a wall to escape as a vapour.
Leaves no film on the surface. Excellent resistance to ultra violet rays
of the sun. Forms a barrier against water penetration. Substantially
retards cracking and crazing in stucco, concrete, masonry and similar
surfaces when properly applied to cured substrates.
Compliance's:
Federal specs SS. W 00110 a
Canadian spec. 58-gp-1
Surface Preparation:
Correct surface preparation for any applied
finish is of paramount importance for the treatment to be successful.
1. repair all cracks and re-point faulty
joints. All voids and defective masonry must be patched.
2. The surface must be free of laitance, dirt, fungi, algae, moss and
other contaminants which will prevent penetration of the sealer.
3. Efflorescence and most stains can be removed by using a 10 % solution
of hydrochloric acid followed by vigorous washing.
4. All surfaces must be completely dry before application. Avoid applying
RAINCOTE if rain is imminent.
Application:
The use of non-fogging spraying equipment
is the recommended method for applying RAINCOTE. Airless spray units are
most preferable however, hand pump or knapsack type sprayers capable of
providing and even continuous spray pattern are acceptable alternatives.
When using airless equipment use the lowest practical pressure. Flood the
surface by applying a liberal coating. Keep the spray nozzle between 100mm
- 150mm from the surface and allow the product to run down over the
surface. On masonry surfaces with average porosity a 200mm run down of
product should indicate the substrate is being flooded.
Coverage:
Coverage and penetration will vary with
different surfaces. The following table will act as a guide:
| Concrete (dense) |
4.0 sqm per litre |
Concrete Block |
1.5 sqm per litre |
| Stucco |
1.5 sqm per litre |
Sandstone |
2.0 sqm per litre |
| Brick (hard) |
2.5 sqm per litre |
Fibrous Cement (soft) |
1.5 sqm per litre |
| Roofing |
1.5 sqm per litre |

Precautions:
Surfaces must be dry. Not for use below
grade. Use only in well ventilated areas. the solvents in RAINCOTE are
flammable and will soften bitumen or asphalt based coatings. Protect
shrubs and plant life from overspray.
