ADFLEX PU 160

DESCRIPTION:

ADFLEX PU 160 is a one component liquid polyurethane which cures to form a tough and permanently flexible waterproof membrane.

FEATURES/BENEFITS:

One component, ready to use. Labour saving. Can be applied in a single application. High permanent flexibility. Seamless, imperious membrane. Excellent chemical resistance. Excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates. Early access for follow up trades. No tar or bitumen modification. No bleed through. Non Flammable.

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:

Roof and Decks. Waterproofing external balconies, roof and deck areas, podium levels, wet area floors and walls prior to the application of a variety of surface toppings , such as tiles, pavers and suitable textured finishes. Planter box interiors, general tanking and below grade waterproofing.

TYPICAL PROPERTIES:

Appearance: coloured viscous liquid Viscosity: 5,000 ± 2,000 cps/25ºC Density: 1.2 approx Solid Content: 95 ± 2 Hardness (Shore A): 60 ± 10 Elongation (%): over 500 Tensile Strength (kgf/cm²): over 35 (3.43Mpa) Tear Strength (kgf/cm²): over 20 (1.96Mpa) Flammability: Non Flammable

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:

Surface Preparation: Ensure surfaces are firmly fixed to manufacturers directions. Surface must be free of dirt, dust, loose particles, oil, contaminates, curing compounds and flaking concrete, etc. Acid etch if necessary. Concrete must be a minimum strength of 20Mps and have cured a minimum of 28 days. Surface must be dry. Fill all screw holes, cracks and voids with PU 160. Install leak control flanges around all pipe penetrations. Priming: Prime surfaces with POLY BOND applied at a rate of 6-10sqm/Litre, dependent upon surface porosity. Damp areas and areas subject to rising damp should be sealed with ADFLEX WBE. Allow primer to dry prior to membrane application and refer ADSEAL WBE technical data sheet for full instructions. Detailing: Apply a 25mm fillet of PU Sealant between all horizontal and vertical junctions such as floor to wall, wall to wall, and all hob junctions, seal joints and detail around pipe/column penetrations. Around rain water and floor waste outlets, apply membrane to 1.0mm dry film thickness and dress up to penetrations and down into waste outlets. Reinforce where necessary with fibreglass or polyester fabric. To joins in sheet flooring, tape and bandage over the mastic-filled joint. Cut out cracks in concrete to 6mm minimum width by 3mm minimum depth and fill with ADFLEXPOLY or PU 160 before application of the membrane. Application: To the prepared surface, apply PU 160 by notched squeegee, brush, roller or trowel in one or more coats to achieve a minimum dry film thickness of 1.0mm. In the event that this coverage can not be achieved in one coat a second coat must be applied within a maximum of 24 hours to achieve an intercoat bond. Turn membrane up at walls and penetrations and down into drainage outlets. When dry, check for pinholes or misses and rectify if necessary. If membrane becomes dirty between coats, clean with Xylene to ensure adhesion. Allow 24 hours to dry before covering.

COVERAGE:

To achieve a minimum of 1.0mm film thickness – a 15Lt drum of PU 160 will typically cover an area of 13.3 sqm.

TOPCOATING:

For exterior use ADFLEX PU 160 needs to be covered from UV light by overcoating with either of the following UV resistant surface finishes: ADFLEX UV for non trafficable situations, Trugrip or coloured Aquatuff for light trafficable situations (pedestrian traffic only). Apply once ADFLEX PU 160 is touch dry, but it needs to be applied within a maximum of 36 hours after the ADFLEX PU 160 has been applied to ensure intercoat adhesion. For better slip resistance particularly in wet conditions it is recommended that Trugrip be used in preference to Aquatuff. Trugrip: Allow 12 to 24 hours for ADFLEX PU 160 to cure. It must be overcoated within 36 hours to ensure intercoat adhesion. Make sure the surface is clean and dry. Apply 2 coats of Trugrip by roller, allowing the first coat to dry (2 to 4 hours – dependent on conditions) before applying the second coat. Coverage will be approximately 6 sqm per coat giving 3 sqm/Lt for 2 coats. For further protection and improved cleanability Trugrip may be overcoated with on or two coats of Clearseal or Aquatuff Clear. These can also be used coloured to give improved uniformity of colour and further improved resistance properties. Aquatuff : All 12 to 24 hours for the ADFLEX PU 160 to cure. It must be overcoated within 36 hours to ensure intercoat adhesion. Be sure the surface is clean and dry. Apply 2 coats of clear or coloured Aquatuff by roller allowing 2 to 4 hours between coats, depending on weather conditions.

PRECAUTIONS:

Do not apply above 42ºC or below 8ºC ambient temperature. Do not cover until fully dry. Protect membrane against damage before and during backfilling or covering. PU 160 should always be protected from UV exposure by covering with tiles, sand-cement topping or soil etc. Protect membrane against the action of roots.

WARNINGS AND HAZARDS:

Keep away from heat and flame. Use only with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with the eyes or skin, especially open breaks in the skin. In the event of skin contact, remove excess product and wash with warm soapy water. Refer to MSDS for important warnings and product information.

HANDLING AND STORAGE:

PU160 can be stored for 6 months at below 25ºC. Avoid prolonged exposure to humidity or temperature above 50 ºC. Avoid contamination with water or alcohols. This product is very sensitive to air and moisture. Once opened, containers should NOT be resealed for future use.

PACKAGING:

ADFLEX PU 160 is supplied in 22Kg metal cans.
