DESCRIPTION:
RainCote is a white spirits based siloxane-silane solution that penetrates into concrete or masonry to provide long-term weatherproofing protection. RainCote is a single component product that is ready to use. No on-site blending or dilution required.
FEATURES/BENEFITS:
RainCote penetrates the substrate and chemically reacts with and bond to the concrete or masonry surface. RainCote provides outstanding longterm weatherproof protection for all types of concrete and masonry surfaces. In addition to these excellent protective qualities RainCote provides a permeable moisture vapour barrier that allows the substrate to ‘breathe’.
KEY BENEFITS ARE:
Long-term performance – No re-application or future maintenance required. Waterproof concrete and masonry. Waterbased- voc compliant Will not change the traction or skid resistance of a surface. Excellent vapour transmission – breathable Excellent alkali resistance Protection against chloride ions Odourless Colourless
TYPICAL APPLICATIONS:
Vertical surfaces such as Concrete, Concrete Block, Lightweight Concrete, Brick, Mortar Joints, Road & Rail Bridge Decks, Wharf Decks & Marine Structures and Off-form Concrete Structures
APPLICATION:
Basic Requirements: RainCote must be applied to a clean, dust-free surface free of dirt, paint, efforescence, laitance and other contaminants. Concrete surface must be at least 28 days old. All curing compounds must have degraded or be removed prior to application. A dry substrate is required for proper penetration of the sealer, prior to application. Joints or cracks and gaps must be properly sealed or filled. If acid is used for cleaning, neutralise completely before application of the sealer. Do not apply where ambient temperatures are below +5° c or above +40°C.
METHOD:
Low pressure airless spray equipment is the preferred method of application. For smaller areas, application via brush or roller is acceptable. Application should be from the bottom up to ensure uniform product distribution. Apply a saturation coat with a 150-200mm controlled rundown. For dense surfaces, one saturation coat of RainCote is generally satisfactory. For porous substrates two or more saturation coats may be required, using a “wet on wet” technique. Apply a test patch to evaluate surface appearance and effectiveness of the coverage rate.
COVERAGE:
The following coverage rates are approximate and for estimating purposes only: To determine specific coverage rates it is recommended that a test area of 1-2 sqm be carried out on site.
CURING COMPOUNDS:
Water curing is preferred. Aqueous Acrylics that degrade within 28 days are also suitable. Other materials such as chloro-rubber or wax emulsions require removal by grit blasting or grinding to allow the penetration of the product.
CLEAN UP:
Clean all tools and equipment with white spirits. Areas accidentally sprayed should immediately be cleaned with clean white spirits. Do not allow material to come into contact with glass or aluminium. Dried material may require mechanical and abrasion for removal. Clean equipment immediately after use.
PACKAGING:
4 Litre 20 Litre and 200 Litre drums.
SHELF LIFE & STORAGE:
No known limit to shelf life. Keep container sealed and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. Always agitate drum or container before use.
LIMITATIONS:
RainCote is not suitable for sealing working/volatile cracks as a result of structural defects or caused by mechanical damage. DO NOT apply if rain is expected within 12 hours of application. Uneven applications may result in a blotchy appearance. DO NOT apply a “fog” coat. Blockade is not suitable for negative hydrostatic pressure applications such as the inside face of an basement/retaining wall.
SAFETY DATA:
RainCote is flammable. Eye Exposure – Severe irritation. Flush with large amounts of water. Skin – No known ill effects have been noted however, with chemicals, one should always avoid contact with skin. Avoid breathing vapours or mist. Wash hands thoroughly after handling and before smoking or eating.
